Choose the Britax Roundabout You Like

It's a good thing to have choices and Britax offers different types of Roundabout car seats you can choose from. It's all basically the same seat but with a different cover. Just choose the cover that you like. Sometimes retailers would put a certain Roundabout with a particular cover on sale bringing its price down compared with the rest but generally all designs have the same price.

As far as I know, you've got nine different choices available for your Britax Roundabout Convertible Car Seat. There seems to be more though. I'm just not aware of the others. These are good quality car seat covers with fabric patterns that will provide comfort to your child while on your car. For our precious little ones, the comfort that a good seat cover provides is priceless. To those who like doing long drives, this is probably a must. You would want them to be as comfortable as possible. Otherwise, you'll probably hear lots of crying from the back seat of your car.

No words that I type here can possibly describe each of the available covers available for the Roundabout. I suggest that you head out to your local store to see it for yourself. Try touching the fabric, see the patterns and get a feel of the comfort that they will provide. Another plus about these covers is that they are machine washable and can be easily removed. After a trip, you can take them off, put them on the laundry and voila you got a clean car seat again. As you know, babies love to eat and drink while on their car seat so a spill and crumbs here and there are very common. You can also purchase replacement seat covers if you like.

1. Britax Roundabout Granite
The granite looks like, of course a "granite". It's a very plain and dark cover. I like it, cause unlike light-colored covers, this cover can hide stains well. Dark car seat lovers will probably love this one.

2. Britax Roundabout Jessica
Talking about fashion, this is probably the most stylish design that is offered for the Roundabout car seat. It's pink so it's definitely a girly-girl's dream car seat. Imagine a Barbie mom in a pink car with her baby in a pink dress inside this pink car seat. Now that's what I call a "pink" love fest.

3. Britax Roundabout Cowmooflage
Another, out of the ordinary design for the Roundabout is this one. If you are the type who loves prints. Get this one. If you love cows, get this one too. I'm not sure of farmer families would love this design but definitely it is a head turner. I don't think  other car seat manufacturer has anything similar to this design. It's definitely one of the cutest car seat out there. Imagine, driving while playing "Old McDonald Have a Farm" on your stereo, your child will love it.

4. Britax Roundabout Onyx
Really nice sleek and modern looking. I like this design. I think, unlike the Jessica, this one is more suitable to a baby boy. The design reminds me of "Kenneth Cole" type of fashion. If the dad is the one deciding, I would think he'll choose the Onyx. I personally like the Onyx.

5. Britax Roundabout Tan Swirl
Tan colored with nice patterns. This cover definitely looks quite warm and cozy. I think the baby (boy or girl) would like this one as it looks like that comforter you have in your bed. It has a very youthful appeal. If there's one thing I don't like, I would say that it would be the light color because it is very prone to stains. But my wife loves the colors of this one.

6. Britax Roundabout New Denim
Another hip and comfortable looking design. For parents who love to wear jeans, this pays homage to you. It also looks cozy and warm and your baby would like this one as well. I'm sure.

7. Britax Roundabout BridgePort
I came about some website selling this on a discount. Just as I said, some website will sell certain design at a discount. You just have to look around. The BridgePort is ordinary looking. It looks OK. It has dark color so it's good as mess and stains will not be much of a problem as light colored cover.

8. Britax Roundabout Bellamy
I don't know. Maybe, it's just me but this one has a dog fur look and feel. It is light colored and very easy on the eye. Looks great but personally I prefer the other light colored cover of the Tan Swirl.

9. Britax Roundabout Latte
Coffee lovers take note. Latte looks like that morning pleasure that you sip everyday. I love the color of this one. It's light brown and looks super comfortable. Definitely, it's in my top three.

There you go. The Britax designers have given you different choices in terms of Roundabout car seat cover choices. For car seats, safety is the higher priority as we all know. But, definitely it's a big plus to know that we’ve got a variety of different designs to choose from. Check them out on your local baby store retailer so you can see it yourself. But, before buying check out internet retailers as well. You never know where you might get a good price.

Important Info on using Britax Roundabout

Now that you've got the Britax Roundabout car seat that you've been researching for awhile. What's next? As you know, the most important thing to remember regarding car seat safety is proper installation. Always and I say always check the manual to get familiar with it. Yeah, I know sometimes you'll think that its easy as 1-2-3. But, of course, its always good to consult the manual. Don't be a "know it all". This isn't any other "stuff" that you buy and play with. You can't afford to get it wrong.

Below are some important information that you should keep in mind for your child's safety on your new Britax Roundabout. Note that this was taken from the manual but new information can change and might be added by Britax depending on the time you've read this article. So, I would suggest that you look at the manual that come with your purchase. I'm just reprinting some of the important information here to help out disseminate such a very important information that every parent should know before using their Britax car seat.

1. Use only with children who weigh between 5 and 40 pounds (2.3 and 18.1 kg.) and whose height is 40 inches (101.6 cm.) or less. Use rear-facing for children 5 - 35 pounds (2.3 - 15.9 kg.) and forward-facing 20 - 40 pounds (9.1 - 18.1 kg.).

2. Adjust the belts provided with this child seat so they fit snugly around your child. A snug strap should not allow any slack. It lies in a relatively straight line without sagging. It does not press on the child’s flesh or push the child’s body into an unnatural position.

3. Secure the top tether strap provided with this child seat.

4. Secure this child seat with vehicle’s child seat Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) system if available or with a vehicle belt.

5. Follow all instructions on this child seat and in the written instructions.

6. Register your child seat with the manufacturer, Britax Child Safety, Inc. by visiting www.BritaxUSA.com/registration, or fill out the registration card that was shipped with this child seat.

7. To prevent injury due to deterioration or hidden damage, discontinue use of a child seat that is older than six years or has been in a moderate or severe crash. See date of manufacture located on child seat.

8. This child seat must not be used in the home, in boats, or in other non-certified applications.

9. Based on crash statistics, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that parents select the back seat as the safest location for a properly installed child seat. Please study the Vehicle Safety Belts section in this booklet to ensure your child’s safety and consult your vehicle owner’s manual.

10. Secure this child seat even when it is not occupied. In a crash, an unsecured child seat may injure vehicle occupants.

11. When using in a vehicle with air bags, refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for child seat installation instructions and precautions. Never use adjuster strap to lift or carry this child seat. Doing so could cause damage to harness adjuster and webbing. Always carry this child seat by its shell or tether straps.

12. The primary protection for vehicle occupants in a collision is the body of the vehicle itself; a child seat will not protect a child when a vehicle is seriously impacted. However, correctly installed, a child seat will substantially improve the chances for survival in most crashes. Make sure all users fully understand the correct ways to use this child seat in a vehicle.

Sometimes you might think that there's too much information you have to keep in mind. I would suggest that you don't overthink. Just use your common sense and follow what the manufacturer recommends. If you're not confident at all if you're doing the installation properly, have it checked by your local police. They'd usually help out. Better, if there are car seat clinics happening near your area. Check the schedule and additional information from your country's safety agency.

Britax Roundabout Reviews from the Web

Are you looking for a car seat? Trying to decide if the Britax Roundabout is the best seat for your child? Yes, it is a necessary chore to check out what other buyers especially fellow mom and dads like you say about a product you'd like to buy. The Britax car seats are up there in the popularity list for car seats in the market today. Why? It's because of their safety reputation. But, of course, you've probably seen that its one of the more costly brand. Below, are some of the informative reviews on Britax Roundabout I've seen on the web. Check them out. See if they make sense to you but you be the judge and as George W. Bush said "the decider" if this is the product you like.

Excerpts of Marytara's review on Epinion, (too long, I got to cut some)

The Britax Roundabout is advertised as being the safest carseat out there, its highly rated by consumers too. Heck! Its #1 on this site for carseats and has had tons of Epinions written about it already.

I'd heard the buzz about the Roundabout, and this was the carseat that I purchased before my baby was born. I liked that it could go from infancy to toddler. That definitely made the 200 dollars it cost less of a blow. Yep, its 200 dollars. Thats a lot for a carseat, but you can't put a price on safety. My child's definitely worth it (and more) to me!

The Roundabout is a convertible seat, which means it can be used both rear and forward facing. The seat can be used both rear (5-30 pounds) and front facing (20-40 pounds). I like this, because some of the seats I looked at only went up to 20 pounds in the rear facing position. Also, the infant seat that we purchased (with the Graco Sterling LiteRider Travel System) only went up to 20 pounds, and my son being 9 pounds at birth outgrew it by 3 months! The Roundabout provides a safe rear-facing option for us.

Britax uses a "versa-tether" - meaning that it can be tethered while its rear or forward facing, and it can be tethered either to the back or to the front of the seat. What I learned is that how you tether it not only impacts the safety of the seat, but also how secure it will fit in your car.

The seat has a sculptured base for an "easy fit" in most vehicles. You most likely won't need to use towels or other padding to get the right angle or to brace the seat into position. This is especially good for bucket seats, or seats that have a recline to them.

One of the best features of this seat is that it has built-in EPS side impact liner surrounds child's head and torso. This is basically the same stuff that they use in bicycle helmets to make them safe and absorb impact during a crash. Not only does the Roundabout have this EPS lining, but it also has a layer of foam. All this is UNDER the seat cushion, meaning that the Roundabout is super-comfy.

****UPDATE**** July 2002 I was involved in a car accident which involved being rear ended by a Lincoln Town Car. My son was 18 months old, forward facing in his Britax Roundabout seat. I am very happy to report that he survived the accident with absolutely no injuries. I, myself, am "ok" too - but got a minor case of whiplash. During our post-accident emergency room visit the EMT said that the safety aspects of this seat, in particular the EPS impact lining was a crucial player in my son getting through the accident completely unharmed. I loved my Britax Roundabout before, now I am in debt to this seat for saving my sons life. Thanks Britax for keeping children safe!

pippadaisy's review on epinion

After the fiasco we had with my daughter's Graco Smartmove Car Seat, we were determined to never use anything but Britax seats again. When my son Buster was born three years ago, my mother and sister were generous enough to spring for the Britax Roundabout for him, which then got passed down to my youngest, Buster as all my children bumped up a seat in our hierarchy. Now, as I'm expecting baby #4, I actually have no plans to pass down our Britax Roundabout, but will instead be replacing it and giving it to my parents as a substitute for their outdated seats. Here is why:

: Features of the Former Champ
The Britax Roundabout still has many features that put it above other car seats on the market. As a convertible seat, it can be used rear-facing for babies from 5 to 33 pounds, and forward-facing for toddlers one year and over, weighing 20 to 40 pounds and up to 40 inches tall. The rear-facing weight limit is still one of the higher maximums for car seats currently on the market, and can come in handy for parents whose children (like my daughter Beanie) hit 20 pounds long before they can be turned around to forward-facing at one year of age.

The Britax Roundabout now has LATCH compatibility for easy installation in cars that have LATCH anchors, but if you don't have LATCH capability in your car, the Britax Roundabout has additional features to help install the seat securely in your car, including belt lockoffs on the sides and near the shoulder area, and a tether that can be used in either front- or rear-facing configurations. It also has a five-point harness, EPS foam around the head and torso area, comfort foam in the seat, a washable fabric cover in several different pattern options, and a padded fabric pad that protects children from the hard buckle, which often gets hot in warm weather.

The Britax Roundabout measures 25 inches high by 18¼ inches wide by 23½ inches deep, and is certified for aircraft use.

: Sounds Great! Why Shouldn't I Buy It? :

Our Britax Roundabout was purchased literally immediately at the same time as the newer LATCH version was being released. At the time, Britax was having trouble meeting demand for the newer version, and were also charging $40 or $50 more for the new LATCH version, and at the time, as we didn't have a LATCH-compatible vehicle, I chose the older style.

In terms of installation, I have had no problems at all installing the car without the added convenience of the LATCH feature. The locking clips give an extra-secure fit when combined with the tether, and I've found that, even though I check the carseat EVERY time I put Bug in it, I can't remember the last time it had to be tightened. In terms of comfort, both my boys have had no issues at all with the seat, including sleeping in the seat. We took a trip to Rhode Island last fall for a family wedding and drove him all night so that Beanie wouldn't miss her first day of school. Utilizing the reclined position, he slept completely through without waking once, and this is a boy who likes his comfort when he sleeps.

After our experience with the denim cover on my daughter's Britax Freeway, we opted for a fabric that I believe was called Windowpane, and is no longer available. The fabric has held up very well through multiple washings, showing very little wear, especially when compared to the denim. In addition, our experience with Britax customer service has been excellent. One of the foam pieces broke on the headwing after our warranty period had expired. Britax charged us a nominal amount to replace it, and shipped it out very quickly.

So to this point, it sounds like I love our Britax Roundabout, and I do, which is why I'm doing the very confusing of giving it a four-star rating but not recommending it. The reason? Both of my older two children have outgrown this car seat BEFORE they reached the 40-inch limit. How is that possible, you wonder? My children seem to have very long torsos that result in their shoulders reaching the top of the seat before they reach the height or weight limit of the seat, forcing me to bump them up to a different seat. Hence, the reason why I'm not even going to bother with my usual "seat bump" that we go through when a new baby arrives. Buster and Beanie are both in belt-positioning seats, Bug will most likely move into our Britax Husky Booster Seat now that he's over 22 pounds, and I'll get a new car seat for the baby that gives us a bigger window for keeping a toddler in a convertible seat.

I still love our Britax Roundabout, which is why I'll happily turn it over to my parents so that I know our little one will be safe whenever he or she rides along in their car. And I'd recommend this seat for anyone for whom past history would indicate that their children won't have long torsos and short legs like mine do (which I'm sure they get from their mother), or who need a smaller footprint in their car, but for us, bigger is better, which is why we will upgrade to one of the newer seats with higher height and weight maximums.

Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Safe, Great Features, Easy to install, Sturdy, Easy to Adjust, Stylish
Best Uses: Infants, Toddlers
Describe Yourself: First Time Parent
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A friend had recommended this seat to us, but we still tried another before realizing she was right in the first place. This seat is compact and works great for our car. Baby seems to be very comfy and loves her new seat. I love the velcro to keep the straps in place so I don't always have to fish around for them when I'm putting her in. Very easy to use, install and fasten her in securely while also being less pricey than some fancier models.
Love it!

My 5 month old baby outgrew the infant carrier so we were looking for something comfortable for her to ride in. This is a dream carseat. The tan color of the car seat cover will work great in the summer when the heat really hits the backseat. This is a great chair to go from rear facing to front facing in a few months (and a few pounds from now). I love how it is easy to adjust from the front and while it is installed; I don't have to uninstall it and flip it over to adjust any of the straps. My baby seems comfy in it. How can I tell? She is in the seat a few minutes and she falls asleep. She never did that in the infant carrier.

By S. Long "The Princess's Mommy" (Arkansas) from Amazon

I searched for months before buying this seat for my daughter. I read lots of reviews on the internet and had a hard time deciding if I should spend $219 on this seat of just buy a cheaper one. I am so happy that I went ahead a spent the extra money. This seat is SO worth it. The print is great and the fabric is very easy to clean. My daughter loves to snack in the car and can make quite a mess. I just vacuum the crumbs occassionally and wipe down any other messes with a damp cloth.
The restraint design is great and very easy to access and use.
The straps have never gotten twisted or tangled like some other cheaper seats do. I used this seat in the rear-facing position for about 3 months until my daughter was big enough to turn forwards. It was very easy to use in this position as well. I love the button you push to loosen the straps and it was still easy to use even in the rear facing position (this is a problem in some other convertible seats). I have a Nissan Maxima and the seat fit very well both front and rear-facing in this relatively small car. I highly recommend this product!!!

By KC-Mama (Kansas City) from Amazon

I did A TON of research on convertible infant-toddler car seats before my son outgrew his Graco SnugRide at 4 months. Consumer Reports gave this and another seat the highest safety ratings (this seat had the highest rating of all Britax convertible seats!) I chose this seat because it has EPS side-impact protection under the carseat cover. It's worth the extra money because it's your child's life! Also, it's really easy to tighten and loosen the straps, and the cover is really silky and comfortable. My son falls asleep within minutes of pulling out of the driveway.

My only gripes are that none of the existing toddler pillow neck/head supports fit into the seat, but that may be a problem with the manufacturers of the supports, not Britax. Also, the straps don't have soft covers to keep them from digging into my son's neck. I just bought some soft terrycloth ones from Babies R Us for $4.99. It works.

Finally,

Make the above reviews on the Britax Roundabout car seat a guide for you while you make your decision. I've included the sites were I got them. Check them out as well as some are online retailers like Amazon and Toys R Us. Check the actual seat itself too on a brick and mortar store near you. It's better that you see it yourself and compare with other brands. As I said, Britax car seats are a bit on the pricey side but you should be able to find some coupons or good deal on the net. Compare the prices.

Britax the Car Seat Manufacturer

Do you know anything about the manufacturer of the Roundabout car seat? Unlike in other industries where the CEO is high profile and well known (think Apple or Microsoft!), the Britax management are a bit low key. I thought I should share my research about Britax. Sometimes we got too focused about the products and yet it is important as well to know more about the company that manufactures the product that we'd like to use. Researching Britax on the Internet gained me a little bit of understanding about the company. It would be good as well if buyers of their product will have the same.

Britax ChildCare Inc.
Britax originally started in the UK as part of a 50 year old British specialist manufacturing company. The childcare division was spun off and sold to American private equity firm, the Carlyle group in September 2005 for £230 million. The company producst are branded in the UK and North America as Britax. It also goes as Safe ‘n’ Sound and Steelcraft in Australia and other countries.

Britax Childcare products which includes a premium range of children's car seats and wheeled goods enjoys a very good reputation all over the world for quality, reliability and safety. It's reputation was built through savvy business marketing, innovation and quality products. As an example, it is the leader in the development and promotion of ISOFIX. A technology which I think is the best in providing safety for a child inside the car.

Britax Commitment to Safety
For Britax, child safety is the number 1 priority. They have an entire range of product that gives protection from newborn to toddlers and as your child grows into adolescence. They invests heavily in research and development and uses crash simulators to test their products before they release them. Britax is just one of a few car seat manufacturers that has it's own dedicated crash test facilities similar to the that used by car manufacturers. Since the time they started, they have focused on child car safety and have grown significantly and expanded globally with child safety at the heart of their business.

For convenience, here's some contact information regarding the global branches of Britax. Check them out to know more about their products. Note that the information may change in the future.

The Britax Roundabout Car Seat

Britax Roundabout Onyx
Britax Childcare, the maker of the Roundabout car seat enjoys a good reputation amongst many parents as a company that provides quality and reliable car seats and other products geared toward our children. Its carseat and related products are available to children of all weight and sizes from newborn up to adolescence. The Britax Roundabout is just one of their many quality products. The Roundabout is a convertible car seat that can be used as rear facing or front facing. It is designed for children from 2.3 to 13.6 kg (5 to 30 lbs) on a rear-face position. While on forward facing, the child has to be at least one year old and 9.1 kg (20 lbs) and up to 18.1 kg (40 lbs). If your child doesn't satisfy the above height, age and weight requirements then you shouldn't be using the Roundabout. Check out the other car seats in Britax's line up like the Marathon or the Diplomat.

Some of the best features of the Britax Roundabout includes its deep side walls which it claims will distribute crash forces and can shield the child in a crash especially protecting the child on a side impact hit. The car seat’s shell is lined with energy absorbing material, such as Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam, that provides a rigid barrier around the head and torso. Its compact size is also ideal for small babies and for cars that have limited space on the back. The five-point harness is also easy to use and, with the adjustable three harness heights, provides a secure and snug fit for your child. As with other car seats in the market, it has push button lower connectors that provides quick and simple installation. A unique feature included in the Roundabout is the Britax patented technology called Versa-Tether®.

What is the Versa-Tether®
First off, a tether is a strap that links up the top of the car seat to an anchor that is bolted to the vehicle's frame. This setup reduces excessive car seat movement in the event of a collision. You can say that less movement equates to less chances of serious injury. Unlike other car seats, the Versa Teether on the Roundabout, utilizes two attachment points on the seat that distributes the forces of the crash while it anchors the top of the seat to the vehicle. In my view, a good setup that will reduce movement of the car seat during the impact. The Versa Tether can also be used on both rear and forward facing position unlike other tethers.

You have a variety of choices on seat covers when you buy the Roundabout. I'll bet you that there is always one for every family to like. You'll have the choice between the Roundabout Onyx, Cowmooflage, Jessica, Granite, Bridgeport, Latte, New Denim and Tan Swirl. My personal choice is the ONYX. I like its sleek and modern look. My wife likes the Tan Swirl for its color. What's good actually is you can buy optional replacement covers so you can interchange if you want. I like the fact that the covers are easy to take out and are machine washable. You can just take them to the laundry when they get too dirty.

In my opinion, the Roundabout is a very good car seat. Go to your local store so you can see it yourself. Check the built and feel the fabric. Compared to other car seats, it's a bit on the pricey side but, can you put a price tag on safety? By being able to see it yourself, you will be able to judge if the extra price is for the brand or for the quality. The only thing I would add is to make sure that you follow the manufacturer recommendation on the height and weight of the child that it will carry. Always follow it for optimum safety.

Where to Buy?
Usually you can find the Britax Roundabout on specialty stores, but from my latest trip to our closest Babies R'Us store, I was able to find another Britax product there, the Marathon. So, Britax is probably going mainstream as far as getting retailers to sell their products. But, the best is to check the online shops to get better prices. I know that you can find it in Amazon but you should shop around as there are other internet retailers as well that carry it. You should go check them all out to get the best pricing. Also, coupons and deals are always popping up all over the internet. Just two weeks ago, I saw a good deal for the Roundabout car seat that is offering it for almost 20% off. A quality car seat with a 20% discount is a great bargain! Look around. Seek a deal and you shall find it.
